FEMA Announces Nearly $180 Million to Protect Against Future Disasters

FEMA has approved nearly $180 million in grant funding across three mitigation programs to help states and territories protect infrastructure and citizens from future disasters.

More than $160 million of the approved amount will be designated to the Pre-Disaster Grant Program, aimed to improve infrastructure to reduce flood, earthquake, and wildfire risks. $15 million will be awarded to states and territories to strengthen local floodplain management practices. The remaining $3.8 million will be divided among various earthquake risk mitigation programs across states, territories, nonprofit organizations, and higher education institutions.
