Hurricane Michael Natural Disaster Debris Monitoring, Construction Engineering and Inspection Services

Client: Florida Department of Transportation - District 3

Metric performed debris monitoring services in response to Hurricane Michael, which struck the Florida Panhandle as a high-end category 5 hurricane in October of 2018. The storm caused catastrophic damage from wind and storm surge, particularly in the Panama City Beach to Cape San Blas areas. Metric was immediately called to action, responding within hours of the event. Metric monitored debris on state roads for 13 counties and on county roads in four additional counties.

Metric also provided quality assurance oversight for other contracts in five counties throughout the District. Nine debris hauling firms and four monitoring firms were deployed, with over 1,300 local personnel working under Metric’s supervision. Metric monitored over 17.7 million CY of debris removed from the roadways, over five million CY from the state road system, and over 15.7 million CY from the county road system.
